Arsenal lead Chelsea 2-1 after Jurrien Timber’s header in the 66th minute. The visitors had earlier levelled through a Hincapie own goal in stoppage time at the end of the first half, cancelling out William Saliba’s 21st-minute opener. Timber met a Rice delivery into the six-yard area after Hato was booked for a challenge on him, with goalkeeper Sanchez misreading the flight of the ball.

Chalobah had earlier headed behind from another Arsenal set-piece, keeping the action around the Chelsea box tense. Chelsea were reduced to ten men when Pedro Neto received a second yellow for a cynical sliding challenge on Martinelli, shown two minutes and 58 seconds after his first booking.

The visitors protested that Sanchez had been impeded, a claim that was dismissed. Both sides made substitutions during the game: Gusto and Lavia replaced Santos and Hato while Norgaard and Havertz came on for Rice and Gyokeres; later Garnacho and Delap replaced Palmer and Fernandez.
