Arsenal held 0-0 by Liverpool at Emirates, miss chance to go eight points clear
Goal reported that Arsenal were held to a 0-0 draw by Liverpool at the Emirates on Thursday, missing the chance to move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League. Manchester City had dropped points at home to Brighton 24 hours earlier, and after the draw Arsenal sit six points ahead of their closest challengers.
A moment of confusion nearly saw Arsenal fall behind when William Saliba's overhit pass to David Raya ricocheted off Raya's foot to Conor Bradley, who tried to lob the goalkeeper and hit the bar. Liverpool's penalty appeals were rejected after Jeremie Frimpong twisted his ankle under pressure from Piero Hincapie, who was substituted with an injury, and a Florian Wirtz claim after the break was not given following a VAR check. There was little to separate the sides across 90 minutes; substitutes Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli forced saves from Alisson in added time.
Viktor Gyokeres touched the ball only eight times — his fewest in a match for Arsenal — before being replaced by Jesus. The goalless draw ended a disappointing night for the Gunners, who were unable to capitalise on Manchester City's slip-up.
