Arsenal in talks to lower fee as Fabio Vieira agrees Hamburg terms

Arsenal have opened discussions to reduce their asking price for Fabio Vieira as a permanent move to Hamburg edges closer. The Portuguese playmaker has reached agreement on personal terms with the Bundesliga club after a productive loan spell. Vieira, 25, has been a key figure for Hamburg, scoring three times in his last five appearances and five times this season.

His early Bundesliga run included two red cards in his first five games, but a spectacular goal in the 1-1 draw with Koln has intensified Hamburg's interest in keeping him. With Arsenal realistic about recouping the full £34 million they paid in 2022, talks are reportedly under way to halve the initial cost of Hamburg's purchase option, which has been quoted at €20m.

Lowering the asking price would help Arsenal free space in the squad and on the wage bill. As the season approaches its end, negotiations are expected to pick up pace.
