Goal: Mikel Arteta says he is aiming for Carabao Cup success to make up for previous trophy failures as Arsenal travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the first leg of the semi-final on Wednesday.

Arteta, whose side were knocked out at this stage last season by eventual winners Newcastle, described that exit as 'painful' and urged his players to learn from it and be 'more efficient'. Arsenal sit six points clear at the top of the Premier League, are through to the fourth round of the FA Cup and top their Champions League group, while Arteta has won one trophy in charge, the 2020 FA Cup.

He also offered an update on Kai Havertz, saying the forward has returned from injury looking fit and confident but that his minutes must be managed as his robustness is built. Arsenal still have to face Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and Leeds in the Premier League in January, as well as Inter and Kairat Almaty in the Champions League, before the Carabao Cup second leg; the winners will go on to face either Newcastle or Manchester City in the final.
