Arteta unsure on Bukayo Saka after hip injury in warm-up ahead of Leeds win
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta offered an update after Bukayo Saka suffered a hip injury in the warm-up and missed the Gunners' 4-0 victory at Leeds. Saka had been set to start but was replaced from the off by Noni Madueke.
Arsenal took the lead through a Martin Zubimendi header and soon doubled when Karl Darlow knocked a Madueke corner into his own goal. Madueke, who replaced Saka, registered two assists, while Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel Jesus also scored.
The win restored Arsenal's seven-point lead over Manchester City and Aston Villa, although both rivals still have a game in hand and will play their respective fixtures on Sunday. The result also ended a run of three Premier League games without a win at a difficult ground.
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Arteta said: "We don't know yet. He had a little niggle in the warm-up." He praised the team’s attitude after the game and said Madueke "reacted really well" after being "thrown out there when you least expect it."
Madueke told Sky Sports, via BBC Sport, that he had not expected to start but was "prepared" and appreciated the travelling supporters, adding that everyone must be ready when called upon.
With fixtures against Chelsea and Sunderland coming next week and Arsenal hosting Sunderland the following weekend, Arteta will hope Saka recovers soon, but the manager indicated the winger's availability remains uncertain.
