Asos co-founder dies after fall from apartment in Thailand
Quentin Griffiths, the co-founder of online fashion retailer Asos, has died after falling from an apartment building in the Thai seaside resort city of Pattaya. He was 58 and fell from the 17th floor of an 18-floor condominium on 9 February. Police said initial investigations suggested suicide and found no indications of foul play.
CCTV footage showed no sign of anyone entering his apartment, where he lived alone, and his body was sent for an autopsy. A Thai friend of Griffiths told police he had been worried about lawsuits from his former wife, and documents related to those cases were found in his flat.
Griffiths co-founded Asos in London in 2000 with Nick Robertson. The business began as As Seen on Screen, adopted the Asos acronym in 2002 and floated on London’s Alternative Investment Market in 2001, growing into one of the world’s largest online fashion retailers with designs worn by Rihanna and Michelle Obama.
