Associate professor moves to Seoul for one-year Fulbright with her family
Businessinsider reports Motolani Adedipe moved from Oklahoma to Seoul, South Korea, in August with her two young children and her mother after winning a Fulbright scholarship to extend her research in prostate cancer survivorship. Adedipe is an associate professor at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
Adedipe first became interested in Korea after living with a Korean roommate while interning in Boston and began learning Korean nine years ago. She applied for the Fulbright in September 2024, cleared a first review in December, and received acceptance in April. Her physician husband did not accompany the family but has visited several times and plans more trips.
They found a two-bedroom, one-bath apartment in Mapo-gu about a 30-minute commute from her office; her scholarship includes a housing stipend that she declined to share. Per December data from the Korea Real Estate Board, the median monthly rent in Mapo-gu is 1.39 million won, about $940.
