At least 39 people were killed and dozens more injured in a collision involving high-speed trains near Adamuz, in southern Spain, survivors and officials said. Passengers described chaotic and hellish scenes after the crash. Survivors posting on social media and interviewed by outlets recounted wrecked cars, falling luggage and screams.

Salvador Jiménez, a journalist with RTVE who said he was a passenger in the first car of one train, said, "There was a moment when it felt like an earthquake." María Vidal told El País that medics rushed to mangled cars and ambulances carried away the dead and injured: "I'm in shock," she said.
