Atletico 3-0 Tottenham: Kinsky concedes three and is substituted in tears
Antonin Kinsky, who had last played for Tottenham in an October League Cup loss to Newcastle, was surprisingly chosen by Tudor to start the Champions League round-of-16 first leg at Atlético Madrid. Marcos Llorente, Antoine Griezmann and Julián Álvarez scored as Atlético led 3-0 inside 15 minutes, and two minutes after the third goal Kinsky was substituted in tears for Guglielmo Vicario, who had not missed a game since the 29 October League Cup match.
Tudor defended the decision to start Kinsky and described the sequence as inexplicable: "It was the right choice. He's a valuable goalkeeper, but what happened is inexplicable. I'm sorry that something happened that I've never seen before. When you make a mistake, changing him after twenty minutes was a way of helping him.
It was a terrible moment, it seems like we're paying for everything. Everything is going against us, it's inexplicable. Did we substitute Kinsky to protect him? That was the goal.
