Banijay enters advanced talks to combine with All3Media
Banijay Group, the Paris-headquartered independent television production company behind shows such as Peaky Blinders, says it has entered discussions about a potential combination with UK-based All3Media, the maker of shows including The Traitors. The company said in a statement: “The company confirms that it has entered into discussions with the All3Media owner regarding a potential combination between Banijay and All3Media.” Reuters first reported the talks, citing a source who said any deal was expected to include All3Media injecting funds into the merged entity because it was the smaller company.
A merger would bring together Banijay hits such as MasterChef, Survivor, Pointless, Hunted and Location, Location, Location with All3Media staples including Midsomer Murders, Call the Midwife, Great British Menu and Race Across the World. All3Media, owned by RedBird IMI, has about 50 labels and has produced Fleabag, Shameless and Squid Game: the Challenge.
Banijay cautioned that “no decision has been taken and that there can be no assurance that a transaction will be concluded. Further announcements will be made if and when appropriate.” If a deal is struck, the scale of the combined group is likely to draw scrutiny from the UK competition watchdog and European regulators.
