Barcelona warned over Marcus Rashford transfer by presidential candidate
Barcelona presidential candidate Xavier Vilajoana has questioned Marcus Rashford's long-term future at the club, urging the Catalan side to weigh internal options before triggering the €30million buy clause to sign him permanently from Manchester United. Rashford has recorded 10 goals and 13 assists in his loan spell.
Vilajoana pointed to 19-year-old Jan Virgili as a possible in-house alternative, noting Barca retain a buy-back clause after his €3.5m sale to Mallorca last summer. He said he believes you should 'always look in-house first, and then look outside depending on the characteristics of the players you have.' He stressed that the president does not decide alone and added that 'if [signing Rashford] is considered to be the best decision from a sporting point of view, the money will be there to make it happen.' Vilajoana also raised Harry Kane as a potential summer target, saying the England captain would 'fit in perfectly' and that Barcelona have already made some contact.
