Coinbase’s Base App is winding down its Creator Rewards program and its Farcaster-powered social feed as it shifts to concentrate on tradable assets. Launched in July to make Ethereum layer 2 Base more social, the Creator Rewards program paid roughly $450,000 to 17,000 creators over seven months, averaging about $26 per creator.

The program will wrap on Sunday, with final payouts on Feb. 18. Base creator Jesse Pollak said, "As we’ve rolled the app out, we’ve realized we need to do less, better. And by focusing on tradable assets, that’s exactly what we can do," adding: "The app needs to have one primary focus, and that thing is trading." Pollak called the Base App an imperfect Farcaster client and expects users to flow back to the Farcaster app, bringing more energy to that ecosystem.

The shift also aligns with Coinbase’s broader push to build an "Everything App" across spot and derivatives trading, stablecoins, real-world asset tokenization and prediction markets.
