The Supreme Court blocked a significant chunk of President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariff policy, but the administration is pressing on. This weekend the president announced plans to impose a 15% “worldwide” tariff under Section 122, which allows broad tariffs to be implemented for up to 150 days; a more permanent approach would likely require action from Congress.

One major open question is the fate of the $133 billion collected from the struck-down tariffs. More than a thousand companies have filed suits seeking refunds, a process that promises to be messy and litigious as firms weigh the benefits of pursuing money back against the risk of antagonizing the administration.

Some Democrats have urged $1,700 refunds directly to Americans, while Goldman Sachs warned shoppers should not expect prices to fall soon. The ruling will reshape market expectations.
