Bayern's injured keepers leave 16-year-old Leonard Prescott on bench
Manuel Neuer is sidelined with a muscle tear and Jonas Urbig was taken to hospital after a collision that left him with a head injury, leaving Bayern short at goalkeeper. Sven Ulreich is likely to start against Bayer Leverkusen, while 16-year-old Leonard Prescott, who was on the bench for the Champions League first leg against Atalanta, has been drafted into the matchday squad.
Prescott is a New York–born goalkeeper who joined from 1. FC Union Berlin in 2023. He stands 1.96 metres tall, is right-footed and features for Bayern's U19s in the DFB Youth League and the UEFA Youth League; this season he has also been training regularly with the first team alongside Manuel Neuer.
The German U17 international is noted for strong reflexes and a commanding presence between the posts, with few obvious weaknesses reported. His contract in Munich runs until 2027 and several well-known clubs have already expressed interest to his parents as he considers prospects for regular professional playing time.
