I tested the Beats Studio Pro and found a pair of headphones with a muted, mature matte finish and strong cross-platform compatibility for both iOS and Android users. The design is cleaner than older Beats models, with smoothed hinges and improved ear cup materials called UltraPlush.

In Deep Brown the look is discreet and appealing. The Studio Pro adds active noise canceling and a first-for-Beats transparency mode for over-ear models, plus spatial audio on iOS over Bluetooth and lossless playback via USB-C. USB-C also enables Entertainment and Conversation modes and lets you listen to lossless audio while charging on Android, but those USB-C benefits don’t work with an iPhone; you’ll need an iPad or Mac instead.

There’s no multipoint for Apple devices, though the headphones can intelligently switch between an Android phone and a Chromebook. Sound is balanced and controlled rather than bass-forward, so fans of older, heavy-beat Beats may find these quieter.
