Bedrock, an A.I. Start-Up for Construction, Raises $270 Million
Bedrock Robotics, a roughly year-old start-up founded by veterans of Waymo, said it raised $270 million in a funding round that values the company at $1.75 billion. The round was led by CapitalG and the Valor Atreides A.I. Fund, and included investors such as 8VC and the venture arm of Nvidia.
The company is developing systems to automate multi-ton excavators and other construction equipment, using sensors similar to those in robotaxis and hardware that can be added to machines from manufacturers including Caterpillar, John Deere and Komatsu. Bedrock says its technology could speed projects and eventually allow machines to run around the clock.
Bedrock frames its products as tools to augment rather than replace human workers, citing industry labor shortfalls. Pilot deployments, including with Champion Site Prep, are operating with human supervisors while the software learns, and the contractor described early results as promising.
