Netflix announced it had acquired InterPositive, a company Oscar-winner Ben Affleck quietly founded a few years ago. The purchase, revealed during ongoing talks about enhanced AI protections for actors, drew added attention because InterPositive is described as an AI-powered filmmaking technology.

Little is known about the company’s tools beyond what Affleck shared in a video with Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria and chief technology officer Elizabeth Stone. In a press release and the video, Affleck wrote, “I knew I had a responsibility to my peers and our industry, to protect the power of human creativity and the people behind it.

In creating InterPositive, I sought to do just that.” Still, questions remain about who stands to be protected: Affleck appears to prioritize filmmakers and actors while below-the-line workers such as visual effects artists have complained about conditions in the streaming era.
