Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez on coping with her bipolar disorder
Selena Gomez and husband Benny Blanco spoke candidly about managing her bipolar disorder on Blanco’s podcast, Friends Keep Secrets, with Lil Dicky and his wife Kristin Batalucco. Gomez called getting a diagnosis "f–king complicated," saying her journey included multiple therapists and four different rehabs.
Blanco said his wife sometimes has moments of "mania" and later doesn’t remember them. "She’ll start to realize she’s having it after, and sometimes she doesn’t even remember when it’s happening," he said, noting it can be delicate to address someone while they’re deep in an episode.
Gomez said she isn’t ashamed of manic episodes and that recognizing them helps her catch them sooner. "She’ll be like, 'I think I’m feeling a little manic,'" the conversation noted, and Gomez added that a partner who understands and meets you where you are can be helpful.
