Berhalter: McKennie heeded 'great players' advice as Juventus reward looms

Former United States head coach Gregg Berhalter praised Weston McKennie after the Juventus midfielder continued his resurgence in Italy. The former Schalke player has been reborn this season and become integral to a new-look Juventus side, even filling in as a makeshift centre-forward at times.

McKennie joined Juventus in 2020 on a free transfer from the German side but struggled to stamp his mark and endured a difficult loan at Leeds in 2023 that ended with relegation and him being ostracised. He returned to Italy, transformed his career and shown versatility across positions including wing-back and, more recently, as a number nine; the 27-year-old has four goals and five assists so far in Serie A and is likely to be rewarded with a new bumper contract.
