At the Academy Awards on Sunday, the best live-action short film category ended in a rare tie, only the seventh in Oscars history. The 2026 ceremony at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood produced the result: "The Singers," directed by Sam A. Davis and produced by Jack Piatt, and "Two People Exchanging Saliva," directed by Natalie Musteata and Alexandre Singh, both won the award.

Comedian Kumail Nanjiani opened the envelope and announced, "It's a tie. I'm not joking. It's actually a tie." He said he would announce the winners one at a time, calling "The Singers" first and "Two People Exchanging Saliva" next. Davis said, "A tie. Wow. I didn't know that was a thing.

A tie, but we're happy to be up here." Musteata added she was "so happy to be sharing this Oscar with 'The Singers.'" Nanjiani also joked, "Ironic that the short film Oscar is going to take twice as long." Previous ties have been rare.
