Best movies of the year, ranked by fans, revealed ahead of Oscars 2026
Ahead of the 2026 Oscars this Sunday, Rotten Tomatoes’ audience-based Popcornmeter ranked the most popular movies of the past year. While some might have expected Academy Award nominees like “Sinners” and “One Battle After Another” to top the list, the fan favorites tell a different story.
At No. 10, “Weapons” scored 85 percent; the horror film follows a community left questioning why all but one child from the same class vanish on the same night, and earned Amy Madigan her first Academy Award nomination in 40 years. Guillermo Del Toro’s “Frankenstein” landed at No.
9 with 94 percent, a nine‑nominee adaptation starring Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth and Oscar Isaac. A24’s “Eternity” sits at No. 8 with 90 percent, a romantic comedy about souls given one week in the afterlife; “Zootopia 2” is No. 7 at 95 percent and is nominated for Best Animated Feature; and “Predator: Badlands” comes in at No.
