Cbssports reports Bills owner Terry Pegula told reporters that the coaching staff pushed to select second-year wide receiver Keon Coleman and defended general manager Brandon Beane, saying Beane was "being a team player" in taking the advice. "The coaching staff pushed to pick Keon [Coleman]," Pegula said.

"That was Brandon Beane being a team player and taking advice of his coaching staff who felt strongly about the player. He's taken the heat over it, and not saying a word about it. I'm here to tell you the true story." The comments came during a Wednesday media session that followed Buffalo's surprising decision to fire coach Sean McDermott after nine seasons and eight playoff appearances, coming after the Bills' Divisional Round loss to the Denver Broncos.

Pegula's statement comes amid broader frustration about the roster and draft record — the team has selected 56 players since taking Josh Allen in 2018 and only two became Pro Bowlers — and after Beane was retained and promoted to president of football operations. The report notes Coleman struggled this year, was in and out of the receiver rotation, and that offensive coordinator Joe Brady is considered one of the leading candidates for the head-coaching job and would likely have been among staff advocating for the pick.
