Eleven U.S. lawmakers led by Senators Chris Van Hollen and Elizabeth Warren urged Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Attorney General Pam Bondi to open formal probes into Binance over allegations that $1.7 billion in transfers went to entities linked to Iran.

The legislators said the claims raise national security and sanctions-enforcement concerns as U.S.–Iran tensions rise. The senators warned that weak anti-illicit finance controls at Binance could allow large sums to reach terrorist groups or sanctions evaders. Reports cited by the lawmakers allege investigators found at least two Binance accounts used to channel assets to entities linked to the Iran-backed Houthis and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and that Iranian nationals accessed more than 1,500 Binance accounts.

They described the incident as a broader deterioration in Binance’s compliance and said the fund movements could threaten the exchange’s 2023 settlement with U.S. authorities.
