Binance has threatened legal action and demanded that the Wall Street Journal retract a recent investigation into its sanctions compliance program. CEO Richard Teng confirmed on February 24 that the exchange formally challenged the report and sent a legal letter accusing the paper of defamation and requesting corrections.

The letter, sent by law firm Withers Bergman LLP, says the WSJ published false and misleading claims that damaged Binance’s reputation, misrepresented the company’s compliance actions and omitted responses provided before publication. Binance denies allegations that it violated Iranian sanctions or suppressed internal investigations.

Binance also rejected claims it fired staff for raising compliance concerns, saying some employees were dismissed after internal reviews found breaches of confidentiality and data handling policies.
