Banquet for Fools is a CRPG from a two-person team. It is set on an island recently colonised by the Vollings, who were forsaken by their gods and adopted paganism. All seems well until the inhabitants of one farmhold vanish without a trace. Combat is technically real time with pause but takes inspiration from side-scrolling beat 'em ups.

You control one character while the others fight automatically, and you can switch between party members or tag them in for combo moves. Alongside fisticuffs you can learn pagan spells to use in combat and out in the world, and create powerful holy relics by communing with new deities via stone statues.

Defeated enemies can be killed, which risks them returning as ghosts, or stunned and reported; criminals reported by your party are carted off to a penal colony and you receive gold, while reporting the innocent brings trouble. The game exited early access with a 1.0 launch after a final major update in February that added new maps, characters, quests and broadened character creation.
