Black tape appears on Kennedy Center signage after board renames it for Trump
Black tape has begun appearing across the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts after the institution's board voted to change its name to include President Trump, visitors and observers said. Visitors began noticing the tape this week, and in some places it is red. The tape has been placed in grand halls, parking-garage entryways and on visitor maps, posters and directional signs, covering the Kennedy Center name and former logo.
"The signage will reflect the bipartisan name that the board designated," Richard Grenell, the center's president, said in an email, adding that "it doesn't change the congressional directive for the memorial." The board vote, approved by a Trump-aligned board, has already produced large new lettering on the marble facade reading "The Donald J.
Trump and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts," and the center updated its website, social media and fundraising emails to use "The Trump Kennedy Center." The interior still contains Kennedy memorial elements, including a large bust and an exhibit, but electronic signage and other materials increasingly display Mr.
Trump's name. A comedy writer who worked on "South Park" and "MadTV" secured the web address TrumpKennedyCenter.org and turned it into a parody of the institution.
