Blizzard details overhaul for Overwatch Season One
Kotaku reports Blizzard held an Overwatch Spotlight presentation outlining a broad revamp branded as "Season One," with the game dropping the "2" from its title; Kotaku attended a briefing at Blizzard’s Irvine campus where the presentation, hands-on time, and interviews took place.
The showcase opened with a new cinematic starring Vendetta and Doomfist and kicked off an annual narrative arc that will be told through periodic lore drops with a beginning, middle, and end. Story-driven in-game changes are planned, including map updates, pre-match banter, and events where players will side with Overwatch or Talon; the current arc is set to conclude in season six with a new arc beginning in 2027.
Blizzard said five new heroes will arrive when season one launches and a total of ten heroes will be added over the next year, with one new hero each season afterward. The update also adds sub-roles within Tank, Damage, and Support to give heroes more distinct passives and playstyles.
