Blizzard rebuilding Northrend for The Last Titan, devs say
Pcgamer reports Blizzard will return players to Northrend in its next World of Warcraft expansion, The Last Titan, and the studio is actively rebuilding the continent.
In a recent Game Informer interview, Hazzikostas said the team is "relatively thin on details" for now but must be careful about "borders, continuous land masses and transitions," adding, "We would never want a situation where a player is standing in one spot and then they walk 20 yards in that direction or 200 yards in that direction, and suddenly they're in the middle of stuff that was built 20 years ago." The reimagining of Silvermoon and the Ghostlands in Midnight has been part of validating that approach, since those are "two relatively self-contained zones" that are easier to recreate. Principal artist Gabriel Gonzalez warned the team feels pressure because the expansion is "universally beloved," and design director Maria Hamilton called Northrend "iconic," saying they want to "do justice to people's memories of those places."
Hazzikostas said many specifics remain for the future — the team has another expansion to release first — and for now players will see the rebuilt Silvermoon in Midnight, whose pre-patch is releasing this week and which arrives "come March 2," the article notes.
