Blizzard Warnings Issued Along East Coast, Including New York City
A fierce storm was poised to blast the Mid‑Atlantic and Northeast with heavy snow and strong winds, prompting blizzard warnings for much of the coastal region, including New York City. Forecasters said the city could receive up to 18 inches of snow, with two feet possible; it is the first blizzard warning for the city since 2017 and the first in Manhattan in nine years.
The warnings covered nearly 30 million people from Sunday morning until Monday afternoon, with snowfall rates of one to two inches per hour at the height of the storm. Officials warned travel would be "dangerous, if not impossible," and said the Monday commutes in big cities from Washington to Boston would be messy.
Meteorologists called the system an intense nor'easter that will develop off the Carolinas and rapidly intensify while staying close to the coast.
