World of Warcraft's next expansion, Midnight, arrives with sweeping changes: Blizzard has pruned many combat addons players relied on for years and reworked how every class functions. In a blog post setting expectations for launch, Blizzard said it will avoid issuing balance updates until March 17, except for emergency fixes if something is absolutely broken.

That date also marks the start of the expansion's first season, and the company appears to want a level playing field before players tackle the most challenging endgame dungeons. The company has tried to reduce busywork for the game's more complicated classes by removing addons that told players when to press certain abilities and making classes more intuitive.

Responses are mixed: some players feel certain classes have lost identity or nuance, while others appreciate clearer guidance on which spells to use and when.
