Bluepoint tech boss says Sony fears Valve's Steam console, not Microsoft
A Bloomberg report last week said Sony has decided to pull back from releasing its console exclusives on PC, bringing to an end a six-year stint of getting pretty much every game on PC (excluding Nintendo). Observers offered several explanations: PC ports might no longer be profitable, they could weaken the brand, or the company was deterred by Microsoft’s Project Helix—its next‑gen console that will, it says, play both Xbox and PC games.
Dalton, writing on X, questioned the Xbox explanation and suggested a different driver: the rise of a Steam-based console ecosystem. "If Sony were releasing all of its games day-and-date on PC, the Steam console could effectively offer the best of all worlds: console simplicity with the full breadth of PC gaming," he wrote.
He also said people close to him who had been console-only have asked about the Steam Machine and might upgrade to it.
