Boardwalk Empire Is a Great Period Crime Drama for Peaky Blinders Fans
It’s been four years since Peaky Blinders Season 6 streamed on Netflix, and fans will have to wait at least two more weeks for the movie sequel, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. The feature-length film, set to be the final chapter of the saga, premieres on Mar.
6, 2026. If you’re looking for something with a similar period vibe, HBO’s Boardwalk Empire is a close match. Set mostly in Atlantic City during the Prohibition-era 1920s, the series stars Steve Buscemi as Nucky Thompson, a city treasurer modeled on Enoch L. Johnson, and brings younger versions of figures such as Al Capone, Lucky Luciano and Meyer Lansky; it draws partly on Nelson Johnson’s 2002 book.
Both shows prize sharp period detail and stylish wardrobes. Boardwalk Empire is a dapper crime drama: smoky pubs, cocktail bars, luxurious hotels, classic cars and a strong musical backdrop appear throughout.
