Disney and Pixar's Hoppers puts beavers at center stage. Directed by Pixar veteran Daniel Chong, the film follows a young animal enthusiast named Mabel who teams with brilliant scientists to transfer her consciousness into a lifelike robotic beaver. The voice cast includes Piper Curda as Mabel and Bobby Moynihan as King George, alongside Dave Franco, Jon Hamm, Kathy Najimy and Meryl Streep.

Voicing King George gave Moynihan a crash course in beaver biology. "Keystone species, I remember. There are keystone species. You can take a beaver and put it [anywhere], and it will start its own ecosystem. And that concept, the idea of a keystone species, to me, is beautiful.

I did not know that before this, and it really is a fascinating thing to me." Hoppers delves into beaver hierarchy, how they build dams and how their societies work, including family dynamics. Trailers suggest Mabel's new beaver body unsettles the natural order — she goes slightly rogue, alters interactions with predators and affects the food chain.
