Last week, Borderlands 4 received a Steam Deck Verified badge. That badge ought to signal a smooth experience on Valve’s handheld, but the game falls short, and Gearbox has removed the advanced visual settings submenu on the Deck for unclear reasons. When Borderlands 4 launched late last year it suffered from crashes, FPS drops and other performance problems on consoles and PC; patches have improved things and the game runs much better on desktop.

Several YouTube channels show the Steam Deck build as technically playable but visibly rough, with input lag, poor visuals at default settings and uneven frame rates that make the Verified label feel misplaced. Removing per-platform visual options compounds the problem.

Players can’t change resolution, shadow quality, draw distance or similar settings on the Deck, leaving ordinary users little way to tweak performance. The gap between the Verified badge and the actual experience raises questions about Valve’s system as the hardware ages.
