Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (Gen 2) review
The QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (Gen 2), or QC Ultra 2, arrive as a subtle evolution rather than a reinvention. After months of use, the headphones look and feel much like their predecessor, with polished metal yokes and slightly shallower earcups that may affect fit for larger heads and ears.
More meaningful changes appear in the details: USB-C audio at up to 16-bit/44.1kHz or 48kHz, continued inclusion of a 3.5mm jack, and the ability to use USB-C audio while charging. The sound is warmer with an emphasized bass, recessed mids and brighter treble—well-suited to pop and '90s rap but less revealing with layered, ambient tracks.
Bose’s Immersive Audio and a new spatial tuning for dialogue broaden the listening experience, though the reviewer would prefer Dolby Atmos support. Active noise cancellation sees modest gains, handling both higher-pitched sounds like keyboard clicks and low rumbles more effectively than the first generation; with ANC engaged there is virtually no noise floor, putting it on par with the Sony WH-1000XM6.
