A little more than a week after director Lee Isaac Chung departed the long-gestating Ocean's 11 prequel over "creative differences," rumors place Bradley Cooper as the odds-on favorite to step in behind the camera. Cooper was already set to star in the film alongside Margot Robbie, who is also a producer.

The story began with a tweet from Matt Belloni of Puck, who said no deals have been signed but that Cooper is "the choice." Belloni's industry track record lends weight to the claim, yet the report remains uncorroborated at this stage. Cooper brings directing experience from A Star Is Born and Maestro, and the project does have a completed screenplay by Carrie Solomon.

The prequel has struggled to hang on to directors — Jay Roach left before Chung — so combining a star director with a star producer could help push the movie across the finish line. Warner Bros. is on the clock to get the project moving while it is being absorbed by Paramount.
