Brandon Sanderson: Mistborn film follows 'James Gunn model' for script

Brandon Sanderson is moving his Cosmere universe toward the big screen after striking a mega-deal with Apple TV. He says Mistborn has been on the adaptation track before, but this is the first time he is overseeing the project himself; in shaping the screenplay he’s looking to the filmmaking process of writer-director and DC Studios chief James Gunn.

Sanderson previously reported he was about 10 percent done with the screenplay. The project’s immediate next step is finding a producer to shepherd development (fans should expect an announcement in March) while he completes a first draft by July. “The James Gunn model is: fantastic script, no reshoots,” Sanderson said.

“Reshoots are really expensive. And they can mess up the continuity on your film and things like that.” He wants to avoid costly errors by addressing problems at the script level.
