A rightwing Brazilian influencer, Júnior Pena (Eustáquio da Silva Pena Júnior), was reportedly arrested by ICE agents in New Jersey and sent to the Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark on Saturday, the Guardian reports. Pena, who has hundreds of thousands of social media followers, had publicly voiced support for Donald Trump and in a recent video said: "I [support] Donald Trump – I like the guy." In earlier posts he reportedly told Brazilians not to "despair" about ICE roundups and falsely claimed those being seized were "all crooks.

The lot of them." One friend told the Brazilian Times that Pena was taken into custody after missing a court hearing. The detainee’s lawyer, Andrew Lattarulo, was reportedly trying to resolve the situation and prevent him being transferred to another state. The Guardian says Pena has reportedly lived in the US since 2009 and is from Belo Horizonte.

His social accounts purport to show "the reality of the United States" from a migrant’s perspective and also amplify migrants’ stories alongside voices critical of Brazil’s president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and those supportive of former president Jair Bolsonaro. The article places Pena’s case in the context of the US’s estimated 2 million-strong Brazilian community, which it says has been affected by Trump’s anti-migrant policies.
