Auditions can be opaque, with fake or alternate scripts used to prevent leaks. Patricia Summersett, the voice of Princess Zelda in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, says she had no clue who she was auditioning for and considers that a blessing. "Looking back, I'm grateful I didn't know what role I was auditioning for," she said.

"If I'd realized that mysterious script-without any real clues about the game - held the keys to the castle - I might have overthought it or made different choices instead of trusting my gut." She had just moved to LA, so the stakes already felt high and any role would have felt like a win.

Acting for a decade at that point, her parts had typically been smaller, from walk-on TV roles to the narrator voice in 2010's Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. After landing "a role" and showing up for the first recording session, she signed an NDA and was then informed the role was Princess Zelda.
