Movieweb reports Brendan Fraser has teased a return as Rick O’Connell in an untitled Mummy sequel but told Radio Times that, while he would like to reprise the role, 'it's not up to me to pull that trigger.'

Fraser, the Oscar-winning actor who starred in 1999's The Mummy and later won Best Actor for The Whale, said he is hopeful about the project but offered no firm details. While promoting his latest work he added 'My lips are sealed!' and said he is 'hopeful to have good news soon,' noting fans have told him they grew up with the films.

In November 2025, news broke that Universal Pictures was reviving the series led by Fraser, with Rachel Weisz reportedly set to return and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett attached to direct. Separately, New Line announced a 2024 revival in the hands of Lee Cronin that is set for April 2026; Fraser did not share further updates and asked fans to 'keep our fingers crossed and light a candle.'
