I'm bringing my old clothes back to life with this quirky $30 device
I have trouble getting rid of clothing; my closet holds skirts from high school and a fair share of hand-me-downs. I operate under the assumption that everything I own will eventually be back in style, so I try to care for items rather than toss them. One way I'm doing that is with the Conair Fabric Shaver, a $30 gadget that refreshes raggedy sweaters.
I used it on a well-worn sweater and it cleaned it up in a pinch; it can be plugged into an outlet or, once fully charged, used wirelessly. At first I moved it quickly like an iron, but the best results came when I held it over a pilly area and moved in a circular motion for several seconds.
After about half an hour of work on an especially pilly sweater, the sleeve's pills were nearly gone — though I wish it worked a little faster. Many people are too eager to discard clothing: they throw out a stained white shirt instead of bleaching it, or donate a lint-filled sweater rather than shaving it.
