British Police Arrest Former Prince Andrew Amid Epstein Scrutiny
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested by British police on Thursday on suspicion of misconduct in public office, amid widening scrutiny of his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. The arrest came months after his connections to Mr. Epstein led Buckingham Palace to strip him of royal titles and evict him from his royal residence; he had been living on the Sandringham Estate.
Thames Valley Police said they took "a man in his sixties from Norfolk" into custody at about 8 a.m. and carried out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk. He was released under investigation after around 11 hours in custody. The force gave no details of the inquiry and did not mention the sexual-abuse accusations that have shadowed him.
Authorities are examining whether he shared confidential information while serving as a British trade envoy from 2001 to 2011. He met Mr. Epstein in the late 1990s through Ghislaine Maxwell. Mr. Mountbatten-Windsor has denied wrongdoing; in 2022 he paid Virginia Roberts Giuffre an undisclosed sum to settle a New York lawsuit.
