Britney Spears found with unknown substance in car before DUI arrest

An unknown substance was found inside Britney Spears’ BMW shortly before she was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of driving under the influence. The item has been sent to a lab for testing. California Highway Patrol officers in Ventura County handcuffed Spears around 9:28 p.m.; she was booked at 3:02 a.m., taken to a hospital for a blood draw to determine her blood alcohol level, and released from custody at 6:07 a.m.

A court date is scheduled for May 4. During booking she was described as "crying and very tearful" and said to feel "ashamed and embarrassed" and "very sorry" for the incident. Her manager called the arrest "an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable" and added, "Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.
