TikTok has become a new home for songs and dances from Broadway and beyond. Fans recreate big numbers step for step in bursts of 30 seconds or so, putting their bodies into the scene and turning the app into a theater of its own. Take “Splish Splash,” from Just in Time: a split-screen rehearsal clip posted by the show prompted influencers such as Jojo Siwa and a half-speed tutorial from Britini D’Angelo, and the official video has been viewed 1.6 million times with responses nearly twice that.

Choreographer Shannon Lewis warns of the dance’s “deceptive difficulty,” and Jonathan Groff called it “the most Peloton, high-energy workout ever.” Professionals use TikTok as a calling card, adapting numbers to showcase specific skills.
