Bruno Fernandes fumes at VAR after Amad denied penalty in 2-2 draw
Bruno Fernandes expressed fury after Manchester United were held to a 2-2 draw by Bournemouth. Fernandes converted a penalty after Matheus Cunha was fouled, but was incandescent when Amad Diallo was pushed by Adrien Truffert and no spot-kick was given; Bournemouth broke and Ryan Christie equalised.
Fernandes then forced an own goal from James Hill to restore United's lead before Harry Maguire was sent off for a foul on Evanilson and Junior Kroupi scored from the resulting penalty. Fernandes said he was disappointed because United did enough to take three points and questioned why VAR did not intervene over Amad's challenge.
He argued that Amad’s smaller stature works against him, that the two incidents looked the same, and that either both were penalties or neither was. Manager Michael Carrick echoed that view, calling the two incidents alike and describing them as a two-handed grab.
