Bruno Fernandes surpasses David Beckham in Man Utd history
Bruno Fernandes further cemented his place among Manchester United’s modern greats after producing the decisive moments in a 2-1 comeback win over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford. The Portuguese midfielder converted a penalty and then set up Benjamin Sesko’s winner to turn the game around.
Crystal Palace had taken an early lead through Maxence Lacroix, but the match swung in United’s favour after Lacroix was sent off for bringing down Matheus Cunha. Fernandes calmly levelled from the spot before providing the assist that sealed the victory, moving United up to third on 51 points while Palace remain 14th on 35.
Statistically the appearance was significant. Opta credit Fernandes with having both scored and assisted in 18 different Premier League matches for United, one more than David Beckham’s 17 and behind only Wayne Rooney (35) and Ryan Giggs (22). He is also the first United player to reach 13 Premier League assists in a single season since Antonio Valencia in 2011-12.
