Bruno Fernandes said he knew Michael Carrick would make a great manager after first working with him four years ago when Carrick was Manchester United's interim boss. Fernandes struck as United beat Spurs 2-0 to earn a fourth win in four matches under Carrick since he succeeded Ruben Amorim in the Old Trafford dugout until the end of the season.

Fernandes set United on their way by master-minding the corner that led to Bryan Mbeumo scoring the first goal after Cristian Romero had been sent off. He then knocked in Diogo Dalot's cross to score his sixth Premier League goal of the season and clinch the win, which strengthens Carrick's hopes of being named United boss on a permanent basis.

Across both spells, Carrick's record in charge reads six wins, one draw and zero defeats. Fernandes praised Carrick's leadership, saying the coach "came in with the right idea of giving the players the freedom to take responsibility on the pitch" and that he had known "Michael could be a great manager" after seeing his management style in 2021.
