There’s been a steady appetite for scammer stories in recent years, and downtown stylist Bryant Simmons says Vanity Fair shoe‑horned him into that role. The monthly profiled Simmons in January, headlined “He said/He said” and titled “Frenemies Call Him a Scammer.

He Says They’re Just Jealous.” The piece included on‑the‑record and anonymous sources accusing Simmons of bouncing coast to coast, avoiding rent, sleeping on an air mattress while dressing in luxe designers, using clients’ credit cards to buy clothes and prompting “whispers of unauthorized credit card authorizations” at Khaite.

It also noted his arrest on aggravated harassment charges; Simmons denied the allegations, and a judge dismissed the harassment case last week. Simmons says the story began after a dispute with his former roommate, Arya Toufanian, who set up a now‑deactivated Instagram account, @bryansimmonsisascammer, and tagged publications to draw attention.
