'Buffy' revival killed at Hulu, Sarah Michelle Gellar reveals

Susan Michelle Gellar announced in an Instagram video that Hulu has decided not to move forward with the planned continuation, 'Buffy: New Sunnydale.' She told followers she was sad to share the news and thanked filmmaker Chloé Zhao for reminding her how much she loves the character.

Gellar said, 'I promise that if the apocalypse actually comes, you can still beep me.' Fans flooded the comments with pleas for another platform to pick up the project and messages of heartbreak, including 'Can we get another streaming service to pick it up?! Please' and 'Honestly feeling heartbroken!

No exaggeration.' The project had a pilot ordered a year ago, with Zhao directing and a script by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman. Insiders described the pilot as 'not perfect' and suggested Zhao might not have been the right fit, despite a multi‑year development period between Gellar and Zhao.
