Bungie admits Marathon audio change was 'overcorrection' and will dial it back — Pcgamer

Morgan Park had a rough night in Marathon a couple days ago. He initially attributed it to a run of bad luck, but noticed many other players having similar struggles and pointing to noise.

Silence is golden in Marathon: the more noise you make, the more likely you are to attract trouble and catch a bullet. A recent update included a brief note in the patch notes: "Increased the range gunfire and explosions can be heard from."

Bungie acknowledged the tweak was an "overcorrection" and said it would pull things back so players can still hear each other's actions, but "not at a distance that feels excessive." The studio added the goal was to give players "more info" about what's happening out in the field, but conceded "we overdid it a bit."

Bungie didn't say when the audio adjustment might roll out, but given how widely unpopular the initial change proved, the author expects to see something happen fairly soon.
